KELVIN WILSON
- Retired professional football player
I grew up in a single-parent family on a council estate and seeing the pressures on my peers. I decided I wasn't going to be another statistic, so I focused on playing as much football as I could. At sixteen, I was offered a full-time football scholarship with Notts County Football Club and I had to move away from home for the first time. With consistent support from key role models and a positive mental attitude, I was lucky enough to be offered a professional contract and I went on to play 88 first-team games for Notts County.

At 21, I achieved my dream move to Nottingham Forest Football Club. I knew that to do well, I would have to stay focused and not be distracted by the glitz and glamour of being a professional footballer. Four years later, I went on to sign for Celtic Football Club. It was here that I was introduced to the ‘winning mentality’ that allowed me to believe in myself and go on to win two league titles, a Scottish Cup and play champions league football against the world’s elite. The highlight of my career being our win against Barcelona, at Celtic Park in front of 60,000 fans, where I was also awarded man of the match for my individual performance against Lionel Messi, the world’s best player.

Despite all my success, I struggled with the challenges of being away from home, so I decided to return to Nottingham. Moving back to Nottingham Forest for £2.5 million came with incredible pressure which I wasn’t prepared for. After three months or so, I suffered a serious back injury that would change the rest of my career. I made the decision to retire from professional football and focus on helping young people to overcome the pressures I experienced in my youth, so they can reach higher levels of success. This is something I’m really passionate about. I know what young people can achieve with the right support, and I decided to join forces with my business partner.
